Replace a Confident Date With a Checkable Assumption

By Don McClain | Founder & Principal, Medro Advisors. When writing a capital plan, label the source of each important date: contractual requirement, confirmed milestone or planning estimate. Beside an expected receipt, record what must happen first and who can confirm it. This makes a changing assumption easier to find before it becomes a financing decision. My latest commentary applies that discipline to customer orders, overlapping cash needs and the payment clock. It is an educational perspective, not a forecast of a particular business’s results.
